Terraria was lightning in a bottle and they know it. (2)

Terraria was lightning in a bottle and they know it. We'll never get any kind of sequel because they know it won't live up to the original, and it's nice that they have the integrity to realize it and not just release some "Mostly Positive" cash grab sequel that everyone stopped playing after a week because it wasn't fun.

They could just remake the original 1.1 with better visuals and such, and make a few minor additions Terraria doesn't have, utilizing a new game engine that's not limited like the original. I would buy that.
If Terraria is so good, then anything the devs make resembling it should be good. Unless you don't actually believe it's good.

Its pointless remaking the same game. Thats also the reason why a sequel wouldnt work and whatever ideas they had never turned into anything.

Better visuals is good and all but it's all about the gameplay. If they make something too different it's not Terraria anymore. If they just copypaste Terraria then it's just the same game again.
They could have not released all the updates and instead made a sequel with all that content. Too late now.

There's a lot a new engine could bring to the table. I have bought over seven copies of Terraria this decade. If they remade Terraria with some new and different things I would buy it. I like Terraria. It's a good game.

I like Thorium better because t doesn’t spit on the vanilla game’s balance or graphics. The lack of comically edgy lore is also a plus. Calamity soundtrack is good though.

Which really the only issue with that is that it wasn't functionally improved at all to compensate for it.
Which they should totally do, either bring it up to Bone tier speed or give it something unique like spawning bubbles when you swing it like Mushroom gear does, it's got alright damage for a tool but it's a pretty nothing tool compared to other quirky pickaxes

I remember on 3DS you could get a Drax from shadow chests and use it to get Chlorophyte before the mech bosses. Idk what they were thinking with that

Thorium tries to insert itself into Terraria's already saturated progresion while being a meek cuck unwilling to adjust things to fit neatly, meanwhile Calamity forces itself onto the path of progression and is better for it. Also the lore is kino.

This. Calamity sucks but at least it feels like a proper mod.

Why the frick you would install a major mod like Thorium when its all strictly worse than vanilla and actually literally ignorable because vanilla overpowers it immediately. Thorium would have been better served as just another accessory modpack because that's all its really good for and even just barely.

Personally, I think the best mods are the ones that are indistinguishable from vanilla to the untrained eye. Calamity just isn’t that. I’d rather have a content big mod feel like an expansion rather than a complete overhaul.

If I want to play vanilla I play vanilla, adding a mod that you can completely ignore is pointless. And Calamity has a graphic pack that modifies pretty much everything so the artstyle won't clash, I'm not a fan of all the sprites it changes but the option exists. The only thing that I really like from Thorium is the bard class but sadly it's stuck in the most boring mod ever made by purist autismos.

my idea is 2.5D, where there's interiors that transisition the player to different biomes, and portals that take them to different worlds. I'm thinking that a portal can be crafted that links worlds in-game, and it is the only way to take players from one world to another.

there are over 4000 items in terraria and the game would be much much better if that was reduced to 400. having your inventory fill up within 5 minutes of going below the surface is dogsh*t game design and so is how frequently you end up looking through all your chests to find that one obscure crafting ingredient you obtained 20 hours ago but had no use for until acquiring some other obscure item.

non-trinket mob loot, seeds, statues, pressure plates and other sh*t you didn't want to pick up, a dozen sh*tty biome torches from a pot, corrupted / hallowed block variants, etc. etc. etc.
unless all trinkets stack as one the change makes no difference, but even then the change is inconsequential since you always had (at least) 5 extra inventory slots for trinkets in the form of "slap em on the vanity slots". I don't understand how you're actually arguing this is a panacea unless you play the game really, really slowly

it's called actually looting the underground while trying not to get instaraped by expert-level enemies. can't tell if you're being disingenuous or just haven't spent any real time playing unmodded terraria.
spoiler: unless you have a huge amount of time in the game or spend hours mulling over the wiki there's no way to immediately tell if a statue or mob loot item or potion plant seed etc. etc. is going to be useful so you're incentivized to take them all. terraria autists with 200+ hours in the game will obviously be more liberal with the dozens of sh*t items they trash every time they take a few steps away from their base

In this case, it isn't. Terrara is a fundamentally unfinished game. Classes all play virtually the same save for true melee. Once you've beaten the game, exploration turns into an utter chore. Grinding is also insufferable.

Mods, rather than trying to rewrite the flawed mechanics of the base game, instead just add more content, which is whatever.

A sequel could turn this game into an actual fully-fledged RPG, which is what it should be.

i don't see why you'd explore once you've beaten the game. i quit every character except ones to try out moonlord weapons. and no it doesn't count if i have the weapon in my chest on one character, I have to go make a yo-yo guy and get the weapon with him

Subsequent playthroughs. Once you've beaten the game, starting again isn't a challenge, it's a chore. The exploration is revealed to be rather shallow.

you can like chores, like dailies in WoW, or fishing in Terraria. the game was fun, i wanna play it again, and again, and did
i did dislike exploring the ice biome every time but every game has something that sucks

I don't agree. There's a beginning (pre-hm) a middle (early hardmode) and an end (late hardmode+moon lord). Even if the classes aren't super diverse, they still function. There's still plenty to do. The game rewards playstyles and varieties in strategems. I just don't see any major flaws.

Even with hardmode being jerryrigged into a second half of the game, I'd still say beating Skeletron and getting the mechanic was still a satisfying end of the game state where you can frick around with contraptions.

The core RPG systems aren't finished. The game is playable, it has a definitive beginning, middle, and end, but the class systems are basically unimplemented. They all do the exact same sh*t, they just do damage.

Journey mode is so fricking satisfying. I want the item catalogue part of it without any of the other sh*t. Also needs a progress counter for the items and for them to stop dropping as soon as you finish collecting.

Terraria only succeeded because Minecraft was still novel and people wanted to play other games like it. If it was released today it would be just another survival game.

Do none of you rename the chests?
You do know you can do that, and that they display the name when hovered over, right?

That doesn't really help unless you actually sort your things, also when you sort your things, you have too many chests to hover each one anyway.
Item mounts are a better indicator than naming the chest.

The devs 100% know they can never make anything like terraria again. Hence why they keep adding random bullsh*t to terraria akin to minecraft's updates. The best part is Red knows this too and he made an "April Fools" meme where he very poorly hid his anger at people not liking his sh*tty updates

eh more that updates past the initial version of the game pushed the gameplay into a boring boss fight 0.01% drop rate exploit-abuse loop instead of focusing on what made it fun in the first place: running around exploring caves.

Digs 5 blocks gap tunnel across your corrupted towns and purify it. For money, you can always glitch crystal shard if you're really that tight. Personally, I always grabs biome sight and mining pots as soon as I beat the wall and start contaminating hardmode v spread. It took 2-3 hours though

I get what you're saying, and I know that would work, but I'm committed to killing that 68-segment fricker so I can at least get to work on fixing everything quickly, instead of having my world become split into hallow/corrupted/jungle before I can start getting to work on it.
Doesn't corruption and hallow spread through wall blocks, as well as traditional blocks, anyway? At that point, I'd need to do more work preventing the cities from falling than I would just farming night souls for another hour and waiting for nightfall so I can slap the Destroyer to death.
