Dining

You can choose from fine dining in four open-seating restaurants onboard Oceania Cruises, all included in the price of the cruise. Whether enjoying the main dining room or the specialty restaurants, there are no additional cover charges. Furthermore, those with plant-based diets will be delighted by the expansive vegetarian and vegan menus. With over 200 different menu options to choose from, guests are guaranteed to find a delicious dish that they'll love in The Grand Dining Room and specialty restaurants.

Main dining

Inspired by 5-star hotel restaurants in Europe, Oceania Cruises' Grand Dining Room oozes stately grandeur while also providing a welcoming and comfortable environment for guests to enjoy at every mealtime. Priding themselves on using the best artisan ingredients from around the world, breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between are prepared to perfection, meaning that every bite is as delicious as the last. Highlights include a prepared-to-order Pasta Station, Taco Corner, Asian Noodle Bar and healthy Salad and Smoothie bars.

Specialty dining

Each ship also boasts several specialty options for those who want to venture away from the main dining room. These include:

  • Toscana - offering an authentic taste of Italy with traditional Tuscan cuisine, all prepared with the freshest ingredients to the highest standards, you’ll find yourself transported to this sunny slice of the world when dining here.
  • Waves Grill - a poolside dining venue serving American classics throughout lunchtime and into the afternoon, this is the perfect place to grab a light bite while you sun-soak on the upper decks.
  • Red Ginger - home to a menu of traditional pan-Asian tastes with dishes given a contemporary twist, you’ll find favourites from Thailand, Japan, and more available in this stunning specialty restaurant.
  • Polo Grill - embodying all the elements of a traditional steakhouse, you’ll be able to enjoy the finest cuts of meat, surf and turf, and seafood dishes while dining here throughout your cruise getaway.
  • Horizons - an Afternoon Tea venue onboard that delivers a delicious service at the same time every day, perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy a sandwich and a scone with a cup of tea in the afternoon sunshine.
  • Jacques - modelled after classic Parisian bistros, relish in a French fine dining experience with a sensational menu from Master Chef Jacques Pepin here. (This venue is currently only available on Oceania Marina and Oceania Riviera).

It’s worth noting that on Ocenia Sirena, Tuscan Steak is available in place of Toscana and Polo Grill; this venue offers a sensational menu of fantastic flavours from both restaurants, offering a diverse selection of delicious dishes for you to enjoy while cruising.

Entertainment

The varied entertainment onboard Oceania Cruises' ships once evening comes is bound to keep guests amused and engaged from the beginning of their cruise to the end.

For those who enjoy listening to live music, there are regular world-class performances featuring a range of guest entertainers including pianists, classical string quartets and headlining vocalists. As well as live music, there are also shows on each ship.

Alternatively, there's also the opportunity to find a seat in one of the onboard bars and lounges and choose your drink. With a tempting array of vintage wines, co*cktails, spirits, beers and wines, your favourite libation will be in your hands within minutes. Furthermore, for those wanting to try their luck, there is also a casino on every ship.

Our cruise started in Papeete Tahiti after we had enjoyed a two day stay in Los Angeles on the way out to break our journey and a three night stay in the Intercontinental Resort Tahiti prior to embarkation. Whilst travelling out for the cruise we started to be aware of the Coronavirus spreading around the world rather quickly, however, we were committed to the holiday and there was no travel advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office that would have allowed us to cancel even if we had wanted to. Embarkation in Papeete was effortless and we were settled into our balcony cabin in record time. Having sailed with Oceania three times previously, we were quite used to the layout of the ship but were most impressed with the fantastic changes to the cabins and communal areas from the recent refit and upgrade. The cabin was beautifully presented and well thought out with an abundance of stowage space for all our clothes. Dining throughout the cruise in the Main Dining Room was a delight as were our visits to the two speciality restaurants of Polo Grill and Toscana. We ate most lunchtimes at the Terrace Grill and loved the outside seating, superb choice of food and impeccable service. As for the cruise itself, we departed Papeete and enjoyed calls at Moorea, Fakarava, Nuka Hiva and Rangiroa before the trip was cut short due to the first Coronavirus case being discovered in French Polynesia. Planned visits to Bora Bora and Raiatea were called off and we sailed back to Papeete instead for the final three days of the cruise. Let’s be honest, there are worse places to be berthed and we did receive a 50% future credit from Oceania for our troubles. Throughout the cruise I cannot praise highly enough the efforts the ship went through to maintain the highest of hygiene standards onboard, the measures were extremely reassuring and thorough throughout. Disembarkation was quick and well organised and we managed, despite a cancelled Virgin flight from LA to Heathrow, to get home as planned one day before the USA ban on the UK kicked in. We have been self isolating since. For those thinking of doing a similar trip, we can thoroughly recommend French Polynesia and Moorea in particular. However, be very careful when planning your journey home as you disembark early in the morning in Papeete and flights out are not until nearly midnight. Our advice is to book a hotel for that day which many had failed to do on our cruise and they were stuck with luggage for a very long day. Finally, ships tours remain extremely expensive but we managed to arrange locally at a fraction of the cost with little trouble.

Excellent cruise, ship was immaculate and staff very helpful. Let down slightly when the usually excellent Grand Dining Room had an off day, and when the Buffet was overcrowded on the last night, but otherwise no complaints.
