David Mamet's Movie From Sound of Freedom Producer Adds Nicolas Cage, J.K. Simmons & More (2)

Summary

  • The Prince features an impressive cast led by Scott Haze, and follows the addiction issues of the son of a powerful man.
  • Directed by Cameron Van Hoy and written by David Mamet, the film promises a transformative odyssey of recovery.
  • Despite some comments that the film is inspired by Hunter Biden, the connection has been denied.

A new movie thought to be inspired by the life and times of Hunter Biden, The Prince, is now in the works and brings together an all-star cast. Set to be directed by Cameron Van Hoy from a script written by acclaimed writer, Pulitzer Prize winner, and Oscar nominee David Mamet, The Prince will be led by Scott Haze (Old Henry), with the rest of the cast featuring Nicolas Cage (Pig), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) and Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven).

According to a report by Deadline, The Prince will “chronicles an addict’s tumultuous odyssey through the high-stakes world of power, pleasure, and pain on a transformative journey toward recovery.” Multiple sources have stated that the movie’s lead character, Parker, is inspired by Hunter Biden, the son of POTUS Joe Biden, whose struggles with drug and alcohol abuse are well-known, and who was recently convicted for illegally owning a gun.

Mamet, whose filmography includes the likes of Glengarry Glen Ross, The Untouchables, and Redbelt, has suggested that The Prince does indeed take inspiration from Hunter Biden. While appearing on podcaster Andrew Klavan’s show, he said:

“These guys who did Sound of Freedom, they came to me and they said, ‘You want to write a movie for us?’ I said, ‘Yeah sure, what do you got?' They said they wanted to do a movie about Hunter Biden.”

The Prince will be produced by Sean Wolfington, who was an executive producer on last year’s Sound of Freedom, which told the highly debated “true story” of a former government agent who embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue children from traffickers. The movie was a huge success upon release, with fans no doubt excited to see what can be done with Hunter Biden’s experiences.

Is The Prince Really Based on Hunter Biden?

While Mamet has stated that The Prince is indeed “about Hunter Biden,” a source close to the movie has denied such a claim. As per the report by Deadline, the source explained:

“This project has been in the works for a while and, as it currently stands and is led by van Hoy, is a fictional account of fictional events and characters.”

Wolfington will produce The Prince alongside star Scott Haze, Cameron Van Hoy, Jo Henriquez and Lije Sarki, with John Devaney, CJ Kirvan, and Jose Luiz Zapata serving as executive producers. Van Hoy issued a statement about the project, heaping praise on the screenplay and the cast that has been gathered together.

“It’s amazing to work with David Mamet on this wildly original screenplay. Collaborating with him, Academy Award winners Nicolas Cage and J.K. Simmons, along with Giancarlo Esposito, Andy Garcia, and my dear friend and collaborator Scott Haze, is a dream.”
