Is a cove balcony better than a regular balcony on Carnival? ›

A cove balcony can be the best choice if you value cost and have a closer relationship to the water. However, a regular balcony might be more to your liking if you value large vistas and ease of use and are prepared to shell out money for a high-end experience.

Cove balconies tend to be larger than regular balconies, but they may be partially obstructed by lifeboats or other ship structures. Regular balconies are generally unobstructed and offer more sunlight throughout the day.

Category 8C - Balcony Stateroom. Description: Balcony staterooms were designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, so look to a balcony if you're looking to cruise aboard Mardi Gras.

The most stable part of the ship is its lowest point of gravity, so on a lower deck, at the center. You'd feel a lot less motion here than, say, in a stateroom on the upper decks a long way forward or aft (towards the back of the ship).

Even on smaller, more luxurious ships that don't feel crowded, a balcony is desirable; if the weather is such that you can spend a lot of time on your balcony, it's like having an additional room.

Depending on the cruise line and type of room, you should expect a daily charge of $16 to $23 for gratuities. There are a couple of good reasons why you might want to prepay, including getting to spend less during your trip and locking in the current rate.

The big white balls on top of cruise ships are Radomes. A Radome is made up of two parts, a Radar and a Dome, hence the name Ra-dome. The dome covers the radar equipment protecting it from the weather and hiding it from guests. A radome can also include satelitte equipment.

Category BB - Balcony Stateroom. Description: Balcony staterooms include two lower beds that convert to a queen, a sitting area and floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto a private balcony offering amazing views. Some can connect to other staterooms, perfect when traveling with family or friends.

Upgrades are automatically assigned at the time of booking and are based on availability in like to like categories only (interior to interior, ocean view to ocean view and balcony to balcony). Free room location upgrade is not available on upper/lower, obstructed, and cove categories.

All of the D-category staterooms are oceanview balcony staterooms. D1s are known as "Superior Oceanview Staterooms with Large Balcony" because these are the "hump" staterooms, the ones located where the ship bulges out in two places on either side of the ship, creating larger, deeper balconies.

If you're after views, the best room on a cruise ship will be a balcony cabin at the ship's rear end. Aft balcony accommodations at the ship's corners are also the largest and often give more outside area than conventional balcony cabins, allowing you to enjoy both the beautiful views and the extra space.

Disney Cruise Line uses the word “verandah” to describe outdoor space that is for the use of a single cabin. Other cruise lines might call this a veranda (without the “h”) or a balcony.

Eastbound cruises get the most sun on the port side; westbound on the starboard side. Watching a sunset over the ocean or seeing the sun slip behind distant islands can also be a reason for a side preference. To catch sunsets, you'll want to be on the port side on northbound cruises and starboard on southbound cruises.

Also Premium Balconies are sometimes a tad larger. Premium Aft balconies are extended and Premium Vista balconies are Aft wrap... meaning you have a balcony that wraps around the back corner of the ship and is HUGE.
